Technical and vocational educationists in the GCC countries have praised the Emirates Mars Mission initiative during a virtual seminar organised by the General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training in Saudi Arabia. The seminar was held in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and was titled 'Crises and flexibility of change in the future of the technical and vocational training industry'.
Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) spoke about the 'Emirates Model in Digital Transformation and Distance Learning in the Technical and Vocational Education Sector'.
Al Shamshi emphasised on the success of the UAE leadership in curbing the Covid-19 pandemic, working early in providing technical, material and moral support to all concerned institutions, including ACTVET, to enable remote learning for students as well as long-term development of the educational process in schools and universities.
He also pointed out that students of applied technology high schools affiliated with ACTVET had achieved remarkable success during the Covid-19 pandemic, representing about 80 per cent of the first high school students at the state level.
"This is a strong indication of the state's success and good leadership in enabling educational institutions general, technical and vocational education. Given that the pandemic has had a negative impact on nearly a billion children who have dropped out of school in 161 countries around the world," Al Shamsi said.
He added: The ACTVET leads an integrated system of specialised technical education starting from the sixth grade to the master's degree through its institutions for basic, secondary and university education, among which are applied technology high schools and Fatima Colleges for Health Sciences, and Abu Dhabi Polytechnic. All of this work in accordance with the highest levels, curricula and modern educational methods. This prepares the Emirati students for specialised competencies, thus meet the requirements of the UAE's renaissance in its present and future, especially the post-oil phase."
