As part of the Year of Giving initiative, the Ajman Police are planning to release a number of prisoners of various nationalities who are languishing in prisons in the emirate because of unsettled debts.
Emirates Islamic Bank donated Dh2 million to the Ajman Police in order to release the prisoners, especially those who are heads of their families.
Major-General Sheikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said that the money donated by the bank will be used to purchase tickets for the inmates who completed their jail term and don't have the money for buying tickets to go back home, and to settle the debts and blood money for those who failed to make the payment. He said that the move is part of a police initiative.
Other Year of Giving initiatives by the Ajman Police include the expansion of the nurseries for the children of women inmates and providing skill training for women inmates.
The Ajman Police chief said the police received a lot of contributions from generous people in order to settle inmates' debts and help them return to their families.
"The police have formed a committee to execute the initiative and the deserved inmates will be selected based on accurate standards. The inmates who are supposed to pay blood money also should be free of any criminal charges."
The donated amount will be handed over to the Ajman Civil Court which would settle the dues to the families of the victims on their behalf.
