Colonel Sultan Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Acting Director-General of Ajman Police, said at a press conference on Monday that the six — four Bangladeshis, an Indian and a Pakistani — were arrested and the man freed on April 2.
“The kidnappers asked his parents in Bangladesh to pay them Dh35,000, which his brother had allegedly taken from them for arranging residence visas in the UAE,” Colonel Al Nuaimi said.
Colonel Al Nuaimi said a Criminal Investigations Department taskforce found the car the gang had used to kidnap the man and arrested its Bangladeshi driver.
The driver confessed that he and five accomplices kidnapped the man on March 29. They detained the man in a house in Al Aweer in Dubai.
“We kidnapped him because his brother, to whom we paid Dh35,000 to arrange residence visas for us regularising our legal status, did not honour his word and left the country,” Colonel Nuaimi quoted him as saying.
“We mounted pressure on his parents in Bangladesh, and threatened to kill him in case our demand was not met.” Based on the suspect’s confessions, the police raided the house and freed the hostage on April 2.
The car used in the crime was leased using forged documents. The six have been referred to the public prosecution.
