The exhibition, which will continue till February 23, has already been held in over 65 countries. From AUD, the exhibition will move to the American University of Sharjah and thereafter to the Abu Dhabi Cultural Centre in the capital.
Shaikh Maktoum, son of Shaikh Hasher bin Maktoum, Director-General of Dubai Information Department, opened the exhibition at AUD last week.
Over 22 images by American photographer Joel Meyerowitz from Ground Zero in New York after September 11 is being showcased at the exhibition by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State in conjunction with the Museum of the City of New York.
Touring the exhibition, Shaikh Maktoum said: "The images capturing the horror and heroism of September 11 and its aftermath brings things into perspective of the tragedy that none of us will forget. It brings in the human touch and anyone who will see the pictures will undoubtedly be reminded of the human loss and the destruction."
Richard Olson, US Consul General in Dubai, who accompanied Shaikh Maktoum and Lance DeMaasi, President of AUD, on the tour of the exhibition, said: "September 11 was an enormous event for all Americans and we want to share our feelings with friends within and outside the US."
He said that the memorable images captured by the lens of Mr Meyerowitz will remind people of the enormity of the incident and the extraordinary nature of the recovery effort in New York City.
The events of September 11, revisited in the images, have touched people around the globe evoking reactions of anger, sorrow, incredulity, fear and mourning, said Katherine Van de Vate, Public Affairs Officer at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The images include the stand alone North Wall of the Trade Centre, Rescue teams on the Plaza, the memorial wall laden with flowers and wreaths, remains of the Twin Towers, prayer meetings by relatives and friends among other pictures.
The aim of the exhibition is to show the people around the world the September 11 tragedy and its aftermath.
