Philippine president's hometown and the where he served as a mayor recorded the highest number of rape cases during the second quarter of 2018. This was revealed by the records of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM).
According to UNTV News, DIDM's records found that Davao tops the list of most rape cases in the country with 42 counts. Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte's hometown was followed by Quezon City with 41 cases, the capital - Manila, came at third with 32.
Police spokesperson Senior superintendent Benigno Durana urged local government officials to probe the causes for the high incidence of rape in their respective areas. He also said that most rape cases occur within households. "You cannot police the dwellings. usually, rape cases are being committed by people who are actually known to the victim," Durana said.
Duterte was first elected mayor of Davao in 1988, remaining in office until 1998. He again ran for the mayoralty in 2001. He was later re-elected in 2004 and in 2007.
