Veteran film actor Sabiha Khanum passed away on Saturday in the United States. She was 84.
Khanum, who ruled the silver screen in 1950s and 1960s, was suffering from renal disease, according to her family sources.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the demise of Sabiha Raza (Sabiha Khanum) who passed away earlier today, June 13th, 2020," confirmed her granddaughter Sarish Khan in a Facebook post.
Khanum, who was known as the First Lady of Pakistan's silver screen, was born on October 16, 1935, in Punjab's Gujrat city. She continued to work in films and later in TV plays until the early 1990s.
She gave memorable performance in various movies, including 'Dewar Bhabi', 'Kaneez', 'Mukhra', 'Gumnam', 'Sarfarosh' and many others.
Her husband Santosh Kumar, also a silver screen actor, died in 1982. Most of Sabiha's movies were with her husband playing the lead role opposite her.
She received the Pride of Performance award from the president of Pakistan in 1986.
Khanum also won the annual Nigar film award on various occasions.
