Dr Ali bin Shukr, Under-secretary at the Ministry of Health, said that a task force headed by Dr Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of the MoH and chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Qasimi Hospital, was currently preparing a study on the technical aspects and the infrastructure required for operating such a centre.
Dr Shukr made the announcement while visiting the second patient to undergo kidney transplant at the hospital, Mohammed Abdulhadi, a 50-year-old Pakistani who was operated upon two days ago. The first operation was carried out on a Pakistani child, Nabil Kamran Aslam, last week.
Dr Shukr said the kidney for Mohammed was donated by his wife. "This patient has been treated with much care since he had undergone an open heart surgery three months back. The medical team decided to perform the transplant as fast as possible to avoid deterioration in the patient's health condition due to a total kidney failure," he explained.
