MoE approves unified school calendar

As per the new calendar, the administration, teaching and technical staff will commence work on August 24, while the classes will commence on August 31.

The mid-year break (spring) will begin on January 15, 2009 and run until the first Sunday of February 2009, to mark the beginning of the second semester. The last day of school for students of all stages will be June 4, 2009.

However, administration, technical and teaching staff will continue to work until July 2, 2009 for the summer break to begin.

Abdullah Musabah Al Nuaimi, Director-General in the MoE, stressed that the ministry was keen on a common calendar for both government and private schools and also uniformity in holidays.
