The event will present a host of summer festivities for 65 days till August 22.
As one of the main attractions for DSS 2008, the venue will, this year, feature new additions and zones for all visitor segments.
Spread over more than 30,000 square metres at the Airport Expo Dubai, Modhesh Fun City, has tied-up with some of the well-known entertainment ventures in the region to present the latest entertainment to visitors and residents.
There are around 30 zones and for the first time in the history of DSS, an ice skating rink. Some of the new zones for 2008 include the 'Toy Store Zone', the 'Magic Planet' Zone, and the 'PlayStation' Zone.
Paper-less office
THE Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will engage in an electronic archiving scheme in coordination with Information Technology Department in a bid to make the RTA a paper-free body.
Ahmed Al Hamadi, Director of Administrative Services Department at RTA Corporate Support Services Sector said that the department has so far completed e-archiving of 1,136,850 transactions containing 10.3 million papers in a very short period spanning from February to August 2007 at a rate of 5,413 transaction (involving 49,047 papers) per day.
Phase I of the project started in February 2007 and lasted for seven months. Phase II of the project started in early 2008 and will continue till the end of the year envisaging total elimination of papers.
Aviation Club wins award
THE Aviation Club has been named winner of Best Society/Social Club at the Best in Dubai Awards 2008.
The Irish Village was a runner up top up in the category of Best Pub. Akaru Spa, the latest addition to The Aviation Club was also nominated as one of the 10 top spas in Dubai.
The Best in Dubai Awards 2008 were presented at a glittering ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai recently.
Club for visually-impaired
A Summer Club for visually impaired high school and college students has been launched in Dubai by The Knowledge and Human Development Authority for the third year running.
The club, organised by Tamkeen and held at their Academic City head office, will focus this year on teaching students IT and computer skills, as well as some life skills to increase their social awareness which will help them integrate more easily into society.
According to Awatif Akbari, Tamkeen’s training manager, the number of people enrolling for Tamkeen Summer Club has increased each year enabling them to provide their summer club annually.
