A man woke up to some noise coming from his bathroom in the night and assumed there was a cat hiding inside. He was terrified to discover it was a crocodile instead, staring back at him with its jaws open.
The house owner, Mahendra Padhiyar, from Vadodra in India's Gujarat, said he assumed there was a cat in his bathroom and so he went to drive it away. But when he saw a crocodile in the corner of the bathroom, he rushed out and called the local animal welfare organisation - Wildlife Rescue Trust.
Wildlife rescuers rushed to Padhiyar's house to capture the 4.5 feet crocodile. "It was a bit tough to rescue the reptile as it was dark.
The crocodile was also aggressive," a member of the wildlife trust was quoted as saying in Times of India. It took the rescuers an hour to capture the crocodile.
According to a member of the wildlife organisation, the crocodile had probably strayed into the house from the nearby Vishwamitri River. He added that it is common for residents living in the vicinity of the river to encounter crocodiles.
In August, during flooding caused by rains, a video of a crocodile almost attacking a dog in a street in Vadodara had gone viral online.
