He said the move comes as part of the ministry's plan to develop all its systems into e-systems.

He said that as the ministry's data base has all the information concerning the labour permit and labour contract, the ministry has decided that applications for renewing labour card should be processed via the Internet.

"Facilities should seek the help of the electronic forms programme, in submitting their applications at the ministry's web site, ((www.mol.gov.ae))," said Dr Khazraji.

He said the ministry has issued a ministerial circular No. 14 of 2004 to that effect, so as to guarantee the implementation of the new e-system.

"The new system is to be applied only for expired labour cards, which do not require any alterations or amendments in its details when renewed," Dr Khazraji told media persons here yesterday. "In cases where some changes are to be introduced to the expired labour card, which are usually minor cases that represent 10 per cent only, the applications for renewal should then be submitted manually and not through the Internet or the postal office," he said.

Applications should in this case be manually submitted for renewal through one of the subsidiary labour cards sections. He said the ministry would not add or omit any details in the new labour card, if it was submitted via Internet or the post office, but rather stick to the old information saved at its computer systems.

Responding to a question about criticism against the ministry's slow and excessively charged procedures followed in issuing group employment visa, Dr Khazraji said, "The ministry will in June implement a new system that implies issuing of employment visa electronically."

The first phase of this project includes launching an electronic link between the ministry and the immigration and residence department, he said.
