AL AIN — Fire played havoc in this city yesterday, completely destroying two labour camps and a classroom in a primary school.
No casualties were, however, reported in the three cases of fire, which official sources said was primarily caused by the highly inflammable material used to construct the rooms.
In the first accident, fire broke out in the residential camp of the General Contracting Company, gutting 10 units comprising 72 rooms made of wood and other inflammable material.
Teams from Al Ain Civil Defence and Al Ain Police rushed to the scene of fire, and rescued a worker who fell down unconscious, choked by the smoke. He was rushed to a hospital.
“The incident occurred at Al Thahrah area in Al Ain at 9:30 am,” the source said, adding that the loss could not be estimated. “These caravans made of wood and other inflammable material face the risk of fire, and as such, it would be better to avoid their usage,” he said.
In a similar fire accident, another workers’ residential building located in Al Tawiyah area was gutted.
In the third such accident, a classroom in Al Isra’a Primary school was burnt.
