Who'd have thought that bunching flowers together could be so complex! Whilst attending a flower bouquet workshop at "House of Flowers" with leading florist Emad Al Kurdi I discovered the real art of piecing together a bouquet and also a delightful new hobby that seemed to suit my pleasure of organising.
Just as the doctor ordered always start with your greens (leaves that is) first and be sure to keep a soft circular grip around the base of the bouquet you are creating, as a symbolic vase to arrange your flowers in.
Flowers have many faces, at one angle it will give you one face and if you turn it another you'll get something different. Placing your first flowers will therefore set the style of the display overall, so start as you mean to finish!
Larger round flowers like chrysanthemums need to sit as centre pieces for the other flowers to arrange themselves around. This doesn't literally mean plonking them all in the centre, but with a little distance between them- the focus needs to be the middle of the bouquet for these gems, rather than on the outside which is better for smaller blessings of nature.
A playful array of soft summer wedding flowers were the ingredients for this workshop. White oriental lilies, dusty pink rose buds , Lisianthus, milky cream roses, green cordyline leaves an daisy family flowers blended together to give a musky aroma and a gentile feminine touch.
Ideal personal traits needed for this workshop: Patience, attention to detail, love of flowers and no hayfever style allergies .my eyes seemed to be streaming over some pollen by the end. Yet it wouldn't sway we away from the joy the workshop gave me.
On an objective note I now almost feel bad for florists watching brides tossing their "intricate handy work" in the air, with so much possibility of annihilation in one throw.
