Within a day of their video appeal going viral on the Khaleej Times Facebook page, the workers at Mussafah 43 have got their passports back.
"We have got our passports back. That is the power of pen. I have no words to thank Khaleej Times. We have got our passports back," said Nand Kishor Prasad, a desolate worker.
According to the workers, the Indian embassy in UAE has offered them help, and a UAE Labour Ministry official also paid them a visit. Khaleej Times has been unable to independently verify this. The ministry 'official' assured them a speedy return home, the workers said.
The passports were returned by Legend Project Contracting accountant Mohammed. He didn't respond to phone calls from Khaleej Times.
According to Prasad, the ministry official asked the workers for their papers and made them sign documents for the visa process. Khaleej Times has been unable to independently verify this.
The Indian embassy has offered Dh1,200 to each Indian worker for food and assistance.
"We have also written to the Consulate General of India in Dubai to offer help with visa procedures," Dinesh Kumar, First Secretary (Community Affairs), said.
It was not only Indian workers but all the Pakistani workers also got back their passports.
