Officially international friendship day falls on the 30th July yet some countries park it on the first Sunday in August.
For me its any excuse to celebrate friendship. Those warm hearts that stick by you in good and bad. Pick you up with a smile when your down and laugh with you when your the one smiling.
Friendship is universal, and with social media so present nowadays its hard not to stay close and up to date with those special people, even if they dont live in the same town anymore.
But there's always a fine line between friends and family. Half the time I sometimes feel that my friends are more of the family members I always wanted. Yet that is of course only personally speaking. So what actually sets aside family from friends?
I like to see it as a layered cake... family instinctly showcases itself as an entity that will stay together whatever the outside situation, if it falls apart then it will always go back to its regular form in its layers, as we are family,no one can change that status. But friends, real friends dont mind if the cake turns into a pancake, a robot, it doesnt need to go back to how it was because friends give space to evolve without judgement, true friends that is.

Sometimes with family, acceptance can be harder because of the expectation and in turn our friends feel more like home.
Speaking to some residents of Dubai, friendship seemed defined by acts of love and support.
