The MoU aims at increasing the number of Emiratis in the industrial sector from the current 1.7 per cent of the total industrial workforce to 7-10 per cent in the next five years.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori said that the tripartite agreement is looking into the relatively small participation of Emiratis in the industrial sector.
The agreement would address the situation through an enhanced training programme to make sure that more Emiratis were available for training up to the multi-national level to increase their participation in the industrial sector.
"Increasing the number of trained Emiratis in the industrial sector is very challenging, taking into consideration the growth in other sectors of the UAE economy. But we will be definitely focusing on it in the next five years," he added.
The Chairman of Tanmia's Board of Trustees, Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, told Khaleej Times that the agreement is also directed at encouraging the private sector to provide jobs to UAE nationals trained at the DIA.
"We will train all UAE nationals wanting to join the private sector during which we will work together to see what is the possibility to increase their number, what obstacles are present in facilitating it, and how to maximise job opportunities for UAE nationals in the country's industrial sector," he said.
The Vice-President of Dubai Industrial City, parent company of Dubai Industrial Academy (DIA), Rashed Al Ansari, said the outcome of this MoU is to be able to source UAE nationals interested in the industrial sector and, at the same time, to accredit them with the multi-national companies in UAE searching for industrial workers.
