The Winter Fiesta - India at a Glance at The Kindergarten Starters on January 27, 2017 showcased the rich cultural heritage of India in a stunning pageant that moved across the school campus. The event depicted the 29 states and 7 union territories of India in a riot of colour, music and dance.
"The cultural and national heritage of India is a source of inspiration to all Indians and it is the touchstone of our identities. We must not only seek to preserve it but enhance it as we hand it down to our children," said Asha Alexander, Principal of The Kindergarten Starters School. This is why the school has chosen this theme for its winter fiesta to raise funds for Red Crescent in this Year of Giving.
From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the participants of each state portrayed the essence of their cultural heritage. The beats of the dhols (drums) and the swirling dandiya dancers descending on the quadrangle, was followed by the vibrance of the Bhangra and the colourful costumes representing Tamil, Andhra and north eastern states of Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal. It was peppered with the distinctive tribal dances, jewellery and costume of the Union Territories
With over 20,000 visitors in attendance, the fiesta organized in association with SL Events served up the best of Indian food, fabric and fine arts. It culminated in a stage show that explored the journey of Bollywood from the black and white era to the modern day scenario. This proved to be a huge attraction as visitors thronged the quadrangle reliving the music of Pakeezah to the latest foot tapping Bollywood remixes.
The classical dances of India then took centre stage with exponents of Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kathak awith students essaying the dance forms with grace and confidence.
"A nation's culture resides in the hearts and souls of its people," said Mahatma Gandhi. Far removed from their homeland every visitor had a glimpse into all that is India through the wonderful winter fiesta.
