Kamal Hassan Nazir Ahmed had been showing off his love for the UAE on Sharjah streets every National Day, riding his cycle decorated with UAE flags. Now, he lies in coma in the ICU of Sharjah's Al Qasimi Hospital, with only a friend to help.
He had been spreading the Spirit of the Union in his style for the last nine years. Unfortunately, Kamal's bicycle was hit by a speeding car at the Buhairah Corniche on December 29 and he is now in coma and is waiting for a miracle to save his life.
The 43-year-old man worked as a salesman for an abaya shop since he reached the country nine years ago.
According to police sources, Kamal was hit by a car driven by an Emirati. He was rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital by the Sharjah Police and is now in ICU. According to doctors at the hospital, the accident has caused severe damage to his brain and skull.
Kamal's is a familiar face on social media, print media and on television. He would ride around the city on December 2 on his decorated cycle; his way of showing his love for the country.
"He is polite and cheerful and everyone in Rolla knows him," said Fazal Al Kabeer who hails from the same village as Kamal. He worked hard to support his family, especially his wife and three daughters aged 11, 9 and 6 who live back home in Bangladesh, he added.
"I was informed by the police as I'm the only one who knows his family. I then came to the hospital and decided to take care of him. The hospital required a cardiac tube which cost Dh700 and I bought it for him. His family is devastated and they call up every day to find out how he is."
Another co-worker said that Kamal is a decent man, honest and friendly.
"I request all co-workers, customers and anyone knows him to support him and his family back home," he added.
According to the police, the case is under investigation at Wasit Police station. "Kamal is well known to all police officers and patrols. He would ride his cycle decorated with flags every year," said the official. "You can see him in every street and corner. He is a wonderful person and we hope God gives him the health to ride his cycle the next National Day, too," he said.
