The new system would be introduced on a trial basis in the Hor Al Anz, Al Ras and Satwa areas.
Without specifying the time frame for the project, an official in the Waste Management Department said, "Currently, galvanised containers are placed by the roadside all across Dubai for people to dump their garbage.
"The municipality's vehicle collects the garbage from these containers and dumps it at our landfills."
"Under the new system, there will be some underground facilities where people could dump the garbage.
"There will be special vehicles capable of collecting the garbage from the underground collection units," the official said.
"Things are in the planning stages at the moment and the project date and other details will be announced soon. This will ensure that people are not affected in any way from the garbage," he said.
There are also plans to replace the existing garbage containers with advanced ones.
"With Dubai changing rapidly, we need to keep the city clean and tidy. At present, we have containers with wheels which can be moved.
"There are some people who take undue advantage by moving these containers in order to park their cars," he pointed out.
"This causes the garbage to spill on the streets. We are thinking about advanced containers which cannot be moved by any person. Also, there are talks about changing the design of the containers as well. We would be giving an attractive look," the official said.
