Hamed bin Zayed chairs KUSTAR meeting

ABU DHAB - Khalifa University’s board of trustees has held its annual meeting on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi campus. The meeting was chaired Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court and Deputy Chairman of Khalifa University board of trustees.

Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed has confirmed that Khalifa University is dedicated to keeping pace with the advancements of the education systems internationally, improving the education outcome and raising the bar of evaluating these outcomes.

This is in line with the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President and the Directives of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Force and Chairman of Khalifa University’s Board of Trustees, which aims to take the national education scheme to a higher level, which will in turn prepare generations that are capable of facing future challenges and in-turn play a key role in the comprehensive development of the UAE.

The meeting was attended by members of the University’s board of trustees, namely, Mohammed Hassan Omran, Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Eng. Hussain I. Al Hammadi, Professor Elias Zerhouni, Richard Clark, Professor. Kiyoshi Kurokawa, Professor. Maw-Kuen Wu and H.E. Dr. Hilel Lewis. It was also attended by Professor Tod Laursen, President of Khalifa University and Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University, and Dr. Mohamed Al Mulla, Interim Provost at Khalifa University.

During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed and presented to the board. These include; reviewing key activities and developments at Khalifa University since it held its last board meeting in the spring, such as the status of establishing the medical school, looking at student enrolments and the general expansion of academic programs. New research initiatives and collaborative agreements with other institutions as well as discussing future possible partnerships. The budget for the next fiscal year was also approved.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi commenting after the meeting stated, “Khalifa University is committed to providing its students with the highest quality academic programs. This year, the emphasis is on developing new courses and faculties such as the new Khalifa University Medical School. We are actively expanding our faculty in our continuous effort to recruit world-class academics.

Dr. Arif also said that the board heard updates on the status of the planning for the new campus as well as strategic goals outlined by Prof. Tod Laursen in his capacity as a new President to the University.

Khalifa University was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision, which aims at building a knowledge-based economy that effectively contributes to the development of the UAE.

Khalifa University’s main campus is located in Abu Dhabi, while it operates with another campus in Sharjah, and presently offers bachelor degrees in Computer, Communication, Electronic, Software, Mechanical, Aerospace and BioMedical Engineering, Master’s and Doctorate degree programs in Computer, Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering, in addition to the Master’s degree in Information Security. In the future, Khalifa University will also offer degrees in other disciplines of Engineering, Logistics and Management, Life Sciences and Homeland Security.
