The presentation highlighted the growth of the Dubai International Airport and the different aspects and details of the $4.1 billion expansion programme, which is currently underway. In 2003, the airport witnessed very good overall growth with passenger movement up 13 per cent, cargo up 21 per cent, and Dubai Duty Free sales up 24 per cent and aircraft movement up 12 per cent. It is expected that passenger throughput will touch 60 million by the year 2010, fuelling the need for the airport expansion.
The presentation was particularly significant as one of the primary tasks of the DCA Marketing & Corporate Communications is to ensure that information about the airport and all its development is provided to all key players responsible for establishing Dubai as the most preferred business and leisure destination in the world. The CILT UAE plays a vital role in the development and enhancement of Dubai's image as a centre that promotes professional excellence.
Under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai and Chairman of Emirates, the CILT UAE was set up in 2002. The activities of this institute are totally non-commercial and it's the leading professional voice in its field at the international level and local authorities. Board members include Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman; Maurice Flanagan, President; Mohammed Al Khaja, Vice-President; and Capt. Jitendra Misra, Secretary-General.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport is a professional body, which represents all sectors of the transport industry.
