A four-year-old Emirati died after drowning in a washing machine in a villa in Al Rawda, Ajman.
Police have found that the boy was with his grandmother and uncle at the family villa when he sneaked his way into the laundry room. He got inside the front-load washing machine and closed its door, prompting the washer to run, the investigation showed. The machine was automatically filled with hot water and the washing cycle began, spinning and drowning the boy to death.
Lt-Col Yahya Khalaf Al Matroushi, director of Al Humaidiya Police station, said they received a call from the hospital at the operation room about the incident.
The boy was later found by his mother as she came to pick him up from his grandmother house. His uncle had to break the door of the machine to retrieve the child.
Lt-Col Al Matroushi urged parents and guardians must always keep an eye on children to prevent such accidents.
