At Dubai International Airport (DIA), ten incoming flights were diverted, mainly between 6.15am and 8am, according to a Dubai Department of Civil Aviation official.

Some Etihad Airways flights departing from Abu Dhabi yesterday were cancelled because of the fog and passengers rebooked on other flights, according to Etihad spokesperson Tom Clarke.

Four arriving flights were diverted to Al Ain and the passengers were transported by coaches to Abu Dhabi.

At Sharjah International Airport, only two cargo flights were diverted but 12 passenger flights experienced between one and three hour delays, predominantly between 2am and 9am, according to airport duty manager Javed Abbasi.

DIA senior forecaster Phil Targett said most of the UAE and Southern Gulf region had again been affected by fog yesterday morning.

Targett said the morning fogs were likely to hang around for the next few days as only light winds were present.

However, there was a chance that around Monday next week, winds would increase with a potential sand storm.
