Close to 1,300 financial disputes worth millions of dirhams have been settled out of court by judicial authorities in Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department on Sunday said their civil and commercial reconciliation committees settled 1,291 commercial disputes worth Dh213.4 million amicably during the last quarter of 2016.
The figure represents 21 per cent of the total 6,168 commercial cases that were presented before the reconciliation committees for settlement. Yousif Saeed Al Abri, undersecretary at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said the efforts of resolving financial disputes amicably without going to courts enhance the competitiveness of the local economy and saves people's time and money.
"Judicial professionals were able to convince all parties involved in the commercial disputes to figure out an out-of-court solution benefitting all sides and it helped settle their disputes amicably without incurring legal costs or wasting time in court," he said.
Al Abri added that the large number of cases settled out of court shows an achievement in the objective of establishing alternative solutions to social and economic issues, which enhance peace and stability in society and create confidence among individuals.
Civil and commercial cases of any value or with no estimated value are taken to the reconciliation and settlement committees before referring the disputes to courts if amicable measures fail. This service is considered an alternative dispute resolution.
