With a daily footfall of around 170,000 people across 100 outlets in Dubai, RTA's Smart Shelters project is gaining momentum among city residents, and soon, it's going to be bigger and better than before.
The air-conditioned Smart Shelters presently offer multiple services like free WiFi, kiosks for different bill payments, courier services, repairing services, and a mini mart for refreshments. At present, the courier service is only present in Satwa, Karama, Deira and Shaikh Zayed Smart Shelters, but soon it will be available in other locations as well.
Upcoming Services? @ Smart Shelters
Regular bus commuters can soon avail these services at all the 100 Smart Shelters across the city. Many necessary utilities and services are available under one roof, making their life not just convenient, but also helping them save time and energy.
Health Check
Medical equipment at the shelters will help commuters keep a check on their health by tracking blood pressure, body mass index, pulse rate, weight, height etc - basic health-related figures.
Environment Monitoring System (EMS)
Shelters will soon be insulated with censors to track climate and pollution-related data, which will be used by the government to monitor the city's environment.
"We started the courier services three months ago, and a service zone for repairing watches and phones around a month ago. To make the Smart Shelters more useful for commuters, we are working on installing the health tracking and EMS censors, expected to be in place before the year end. Also, after looking at the rising popularity and success of Smart Shelters, RTA is planning to increase its number to 400 in a couple of years, up from the current 100," said Rohit Dalmia, Managing Director, Smart Shelters.
