With cash prizes up to Dh12 million on offer, the first edition of the Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Contest for girls will run from November 6 to 18.
The organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award on Monday announced that the poster of the first of its kind global competition has been finalised.
Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and Head of the DIHQA Organising Committee, said the poster was chosen from many submitted by international designers.
Bu Melha said the contest is in recognition of Shaikha Fatima's relentless effort and distinguished role in the service of Islam and the Holy Quran. "She was named the Islamic Personality of the Year as part of the DIHQA 19th edition last year."
"The contest is a priceless chance for Muslim girls in the UAE and all over the world to compete in memorising and perfectly reciting the Holy Quran as is the case with the competitors chipping in the Dubai International Holy Quran Award which is open for male memorisers only."
Only one female contestant, who is lesser than 25 years old, will be selected to participate in the competition from each country, as is the case with the male international holy Quran competition, Bu Melha elaborated.
"A big number of female Quran memorisers from across the Arab and Islamic countries and foreign communities have already confirmed participation and many others are expected to chip in."
Bu Melha has advised all the units and teams of the award to be geared up for receiving the Quran memorisers and their attendants, along with the members of the arbitration committee who are to be all male arbitrators this year.
"An array of interesting activities and events are to be organised on the sidelines of the global competition, and these will be announced in a press conference in a few days."
Shaikha Fatima is the Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Bu Melha said. "She has dedicated herself for philanthropic work all over the globe."
He said more details of the award are available on www.quran.gov.ae. "The organising committee can be also reached by e-mail at quran@eim.ae, or on the phone at 04-2610666."
