Avoid community practices this Ramdan in order to curb the spread of Covid-19, urged the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai.
Distributing meals among neighbours or to workers may cause harm to public health and disrupt national efforts under the current situation, warned the authority.
"The social habits that we grew up with are an important part of Ramadan. But, this year, we are forced to receive the holy month in a different way," said Dr Hamad Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, director-general of the IACAD.
"Giving is a principle inherited in our society. However, giving is contrary to the directives and laws issued - random distribution may cause crowding - which violates national efforts and instructions issued by the authorities," he added.
He also reminded community members of the necessity of dealing with accredited charitable societies in Dubai, as they are distributing meals to the most affected by the current situation, under the direct supervision of the IACAD.
