Dubai Police has arrested the fortune hunter who vanished with five Infinity tickets worth Dh1,000 from a petrol station in Al Qusais.
An alarm was raised last week after the 'customer' drove away without paying for a bunch of Dubai Shopping Festival raffle coupons from a busy petrol station.
The petrol station manager and staff who were worried after the episode are now happy that they've got back the money for the stolen tickets.
"A relative of the runaway driver, who I am told is in Dubai Police custody, has paid back the money," a source familiar with the case told Khaleej Times.
As per information available with Khaleej Times, the driver who hails from Tamil Nadu, India, has been in the UAE for nine years. His relatives, who settled the payment in order to secure his release, said they are yet to find out the reasons for him indulging in such a step.
The raffle coupon sales staff are on an alert after the bizarre incident. "We were anxious because if any of the five [stolen] number is picked up in the final raffle draw, the thief would have had a double bonanza. Fortunately, he has paid the money," added a salesperson.
As Khaleej Times reported earlier this week, the fuel station attendant was taken aback when the dubious customer drove off instead of parking his vehicle, leaving the fuel station staff running from pillar to post to account for the stolen tickets, monetarily worth Dh1,000.
