The awards, set up by the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute, highlight the best examples of ICT planning and implementation by business and government organisations from the Middle East.

Minister of Environment and Water Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, who gave away the awards, said, “Technological advancement has been blurring the boundary between telecommunications, broadcasting and information technology and we need to raise the professional competence and qualification of the ICT industry in the region.”

Hussain Nasser Lootah, acting director of Dubai Municipality, highlighted the initiatives of the department in introducing advanced technologies in municipal services.

The municipality has been awarded for implementing smart governance and business applications that are beneficial to the people.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology bagged eCountry Best ICT Initiatives Award. The award was given in recognition of the achievements in planning and implementation of e-initiatives successfully. The award focused on the role played by the ministry in promoting e-culture and encouraging government, business sector and citizens to adopt e-based services and online processes for routine operations.

In recognition of the best knowledge and information delivered by the portal, the Information and Knowledge Portal of the Year Award went to www.maktoob.com.

The Public Information Portal of the Year Award went to www.alriyadh.gov.sa Emirate of Al Riyadh, KSA.
