In a reconciliatory agreement with the representatives of the two firms and the striking workers, the committee could make the payment of the wages either through liquidating the bank guarantees deposited with the Labour Ministry or through direct payment by the firms.

An official source at the Labour Ministry said that the two firms were previously referred to the Public Prosecution after they defaulted the Wage Protection System for two months.

“A settlement has been reached, whereby, bank guarantees for 360 workers who opted not to continue working with the firms, were amortized. The other 700 workers decided to continue,” added the source.

The source emphasized that the Ministry was determined to protect workers’ rights against any practices, including non-payment of wages.
