An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Philippines was killed by a 19-year-old helper in a fit of rage. The deceased, Efren Cornejo died on the spot after he was attacked with an axe by the suspect identified as Jhomel Marasigan.
Cornejo was set to return to Dubai next week, according to a GMA News Online report.
The incident took place in Candelaria, province of Quezon, after Cornejo intervened in a spat between his son and Marasigan, and tried to pacify them both. The two also seemed to have reconciled and even shook hands. However, when Cornejo was driving home on his motorcycle, Marasigan allegedly attacked him from behind with an axe.
Cornejo was hit on the head and body and died on the spot. Marasigan fled the scene and is said to be absconding.
Authorities have recovered the axe used to kill Cornejo and police have launched a manhunt to trace the suspect.
