To be named ‘Emirates Foundation Sensory Room’, it will improve the skills of children with sensory integration dysfunction (SID).
SID is a disorder in which sensory inputs are neither integrated nor organised appropriately in the brain, producing varying problems in behaviour as well as in processing of information by the individual.
As the cheque of Dh300,000 was handed over to the SCC, Khuloud Al Nowais, Director of Projects at the Emirates Foundation, said: “Every child needs sensory input and experiences to grow and learn. This is particularly crucial for children with special needs and learning disabilities.”
The SCC is a non-profit organisation working for the underprivileged children and children with special needs in Abu Dhabi. Currently, 67 children of various nationalities are enrolled at the Centre.
