The Ministry of Public Works has started a mega housing project comprising the construction of 45 houses in Abraq in Umm Al Quwain. The Dh35 million scheme is slated to be completed in 2015, according to an official source in the ministry.
“The committee in charge has dedicated five one-floor houses for the widows here,” he said. These houses extend over 135sqm and comprises three bedrooms, a hall, an external annex, a sitting room or majlis, a kitchen, a bathroom and a servant room. The remaining 40 houses consist of four bedrooms, along with a supplementary external partition with a majlis, a bathroom and a kitchen.
All the new houses will be equipped with split-unit air conditioners, internal and external lights, wall cabinets, kitchen cupboards, as well as aluminum doors and windows. “Electricity and water services shall be supplied to all the 45 houses after the contractor in charge completes construction.”
The source said the new houses will help ease the suffering of Emiratis, particularly the low-income nationals, and provide them a convenient accommodation that enhances their comfort and stability.
50 houses constructed
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works has received 50 new houses this month, also constructed at Abraq. “These 50 new houses are valued at Dh36.5 million.”
The ministry will also to receive 20 more houses in two different areas in the emirate this month. “The 20 houses, worth Dh15.4 million, include ten at Rashidiya and ten at Bayata.”
Last year, the ministry received 30 new houses at the Falaj Al Mualla area while seven others are under construction here. “The ministry is closely following up on the project.”
Salem Khalfan, Acting Director of the Falaj Al Mualla Municipality, said the new houses have been designed to accommodate large families. “Though a unified design has been adopted for all houses in view of the people’s lifestyle, every building is equipped with an external yard to be used as a garden and may be extended in the future to build more rooms.”
