The event raised significant funds -in excess of Dh 100,000 - for the project which is due to be completed and open to the public by September 2005 at The Mall of the Emirates on the Shaikh Zayed Road.

Speaking at the event, Russ Abbott said, "I am a regular visitor to Dubai and love to come here for a break, however a professional theatre is long overdue. 1 am delighted to have the opportunity to support this worthy project and look forward to visiting the Theatre and Arts Centre once it is completed."

The 500-seat auditorium will be the first bespoke theatre in Dubai.
