Dubai - Entries for the second edition of the $1 million ‘UAE Drones for Good Award’ will be accepted from today, its organising committee announced on Sunday.
The award, which is open to individuals, teams, universities and companies from around the world, also offers $1 million for the winner at the national level.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the award’s organising committee, said: “The award will help develop government services and encourage international talents to innovate and create ideas in partnership with high-level institutions and universities.”
Saif Al Aleeli, coordinator-general of the award, said: “The UAE Drones for Good Award in its second edition will promote it as a global platform for innovative ideas by facilitating the participation of the main players in this sector and organising brainstorming sessions in partnership with universities and research centres locally and globally.”
The award will receive submissions until November 1. Those interested in participating can register through the award’s website (www.dronesforgood.ae). A panel of global experts will announce a list of selected 10 semi-finalists on November 22. They will be brought to Dubai to present a working prototype before the panel of judges.
The members of the panel of judges will be announced later. The award was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during the second Government Summit in February 2014. The winners will be honoured at a ceremony in February 2016 before the fourth Government Summit.
