In a bizarre incident, a Spanish prisoner who was declared dead by three doctors came back to life on the autopsy table.
Gonzalo Montoya Jimenez, 29, was assumed to be dead in his cell when he did not turn up for the morning count, according to Spanish media. Three doctors examined Jimenez and pronounced him 'dead', stating he showed no vital signs, and his body was then put in a body bag. Four hours after being declared dead, Jimenez's body was then sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of his death.
"They had already marked the body to open it with the scalpel," a furious relative was quoted by Il Mattino.
Just when forensic experts were about to cut open his body, Jimenez was heard snoring while inside the body bag, and moments later they were shocked to see movement in the body. Jimenez, who was rushed to the emergency room, is now recovering.
After the incident which could have actually killed Jimenez, the family is now alleging lapse by the three doctors who certified him dead. They pointed out that, in reality, only one doctor examined Jimenez while the other two simply signed the death certificate.
A probe has been initiated into the incident.
