Thomas Graessle, 45, who took part in the ‘24 hours of Dubai’ at Al Mamzar Park, was found unconscious less than two hours into the race last Thursday.
He died on the way to the hospital.
Organisers said that less than two hours into the race, the cyclist was found unconscious, near the amphitheatre section of the race track.
Other bikers and paramedics rushed to the spot and he was airlifted to the Rashid Hospital. But he died on the way to the hospital.
Markus Ringle, one of the organisers, told Khaleej Times, “We don’t really know what happened. He was a well-known cyclist in Germany and had taken part in many races. Nobody knows if he had any health problems. He was a great biker and this is a big tragedy.”
Dubai Police confirmed the incident.
