Hundreds of counterfeit spare parts for cars and air-conditioning units have been seized in a recent operation of the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD).
Valued at Dh41,800, a total of 380 fake parts carrying international trademarks were confiscated. Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, chairman of the SEDD, said they are ramping up inspection campaigns to ensure everyone's compliance with rules and regulations and put an end to violations.
"The department will continue to do its part to protect society from those who are trying to harm consumers and make quick and illegal profits," Al Suwaidi said.
Salim Ahmed Al Suwaidi, deputy director of commercial control and protection department at SEDD, urged consumers to be wary of the products they buy.
Counterfeits may be way cheaper than the original ones but these items - especially fake auto parts - are not safe for use and can put people's lives at risk, he explained. Al Suwaidi added that the SEDD is monitoring the market to ensure that all products meet safety standards and specifications.
Muhanned Al Ali, head of the SEDD's anti-fraud division, called on consumers to report fakes and any other violation by calling the department's hotline 80080000.
They may also get in touch with authorities through the SEDD's social media account 'Sharjaheconomic' or its website www.shjconsumer.ae.
