ABU DHABI — The Court of First Instance has sentenced a man, Murad Hanna, to one-year imprisonment for issuing a dud cheque to Rahim Medhat.

As the accused confessed that he had issued the cheque, the public prosecution demanded that he should be punished under Article 401/1 of the federal penal code. The defence lawyer told the court that his client had issued the cheque to the complainant as a deposit until accounts between them were settled. But when the cheque bounced, the complainant opted to bring it to the notice of the public prosecution.
