Organised by ‘Bayan ni Juan’, a group of young professionals and entrepreneurs in Abu Dhabi, the dinner will be held starting from 7pm at the Lulu Party Hall at the Madinat bin Zayed Shopping Centre.
“We will have a set menu for Dh50 per plate and entertainment by the local talents. All proceeds will go to typhoon Yolanda victims,” said Elmer Buguina, organiser of the fund-raising initiative.
He said 300 tickets have been printed out for the cause, which he hopes will be participated by his compatriots and their families and friends.
In addition to the dinner, a charity box will also be available at the venue, courtesy the Red Crescent.
“You can bring any kind of goods to be donated too. In addition to the tickets per plate, we will also have a second round of donation for those who want to give more,” Buguina said.
Other fund-raising activities in the Capital this week include the fashion show and ‘Concert for a Cause’ on Friday.
The whole-day events will be held at the Le Meridien Hotel. The Fashion show will be from 11am to 5pm and the entry fee will be Dh100. The concert will follow from 6pm to 10pm with the entry fee at Dh50.
The Bayanihan Council, the umbrella of 55 organisations in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, collected Dh10,000 in cash donations on Sunday for the typhoon victims. This was remitted to the Philippine National Red Cross. Total cash donations by the council to date had been Dh20,000.
“The collection is still ongoing as many more want to give. But for the second remittance, we cannot wait for them as this is very urgent. If people still want to give, they are most welcome to do so,” said Ernesto Refugio, Bayanihan Council chairman.
