The MoU was signed by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr Gary Filan, Executive Director of the Chair Academy, at Shaikh Nahyan's Palace in Abu Dhabi.

According to the memorandum of understanding, both parties have agreed to run an educational leadership programme open to all educational institutions from October 2004 and also to introduce a pilot leadership programme for business, government and industry in the region.

They have agreed on the opening of a permanent CERT Academy Office at the CERT Technology park in Abu Dhabi and to organise an alumni programme for those who have already taken the Chair Leadership course.

A master's in educational leadership from CERT, which will recognise credits from previous courses and holding of an annual regional Academy Conference in the UAE are also under consideration.

"Change is happening rapidly in all aspects of education, government, business and industry.

The CERT leadership development programmes cater to the need for training skilled and competent organisational leaders who will make a positive difference in the future of the UAE," remarked Dr Tayeb Kamali, Chief Executive Officer of CERT.
