A dozen Arabian camels have been disqualified from Saudi 'camel beauty contest' this year as their stunning looks were an outcome of Botox shots.
The contest witnessed camels walking down a racetrack as judges marked the size of their lips, cheeks, heads and knees. And later it was revealed that handlers had artificially elevated camels' looks, according to Arabian Business.
The chief judge of the show, Fawzan al-Madi, said, "The camel is a symbol of Saudi Arabia. We used to preserve it out of necessity, now we preserve it as a pastime."
Since ages for the Bedouin tribe camel has been most essential part of life so the authorities have boosted the country's annual month-long camel festival. The government has built a permanent venue to host the event and pavilion features an auction where top camels can fetch millions of riyals. Besides, there are food stalls, souvenir shops, a zoo featuring world's tallest and shortest camels, a museum with life-size sand sculptures of camels, tents for tasting camel's milk and viewing camel-hair textiles, and a planetarium.
This year's festival saw attendance going up about a third from last year, with about 300,000 people making the 1-1/2 hour trip from Riyadh so far, said Fahd al-Semmari, a Camel Club board member.
