Stingrays that contain hazardous toxics and pose enormous danger have been found along Ras Al Khaimah's beaches. The Ras Al Khaimah Fisherman's Association has warned beachgoers about the presence of these stingrays and cautioned them not to hit the waves.
Khalifa Al Muhairi, the association head, said that many people and fishermen in Ras Al Khaimah spotted stingrays along the shoreline near Ras Al Khaimah's fish market, according to a Al Roeya report. These stingrays stray near the beaches in search of food.
If stung, a person can go into "toxic shock" and reel under excruciating pain. Besides, it is difficult to pull out the stings. Rapid surgical intervention is required to extract them.
The stingray buries itself under the sand and waits for its prey, thrusting its tail in a twisting motion which makes it difficult to avoid.
Al Muhairi cautioned beachgoers to maintain a distance from stingrays and come out of the water as soon as possible.
