Um Darwish was all by her lonesome self for two years before the charity body came to know of her plight and rescued her. She was given some money, provided a fixed monthly income and all her other needs were taken care of to enable her to leave the hospital and stay at Shamsa, her niece's home. Shamsa was unable to do so earlier as she was poor.

"Two years ago Um Darwish was admitted to the Al Ain hospital in a serious condition and since then nobody has visited her". Because I have nine children and my husband had another wife; I was not in a position to take care of her in my own house. But I did manage to bring her home for a short period of time," Shamsa told Khaleej Times. The Red Crecent promised to assist her, but it was Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid's Charity Establishment that catered to her needs.
