In a novel act, they decided to add elan to their special day and hired a spacious limo for what they called a “journey of a lifetime”. Suited and booted, they were picked from their hostel and chauffeured to the hotel, where their convocation was held.

Aljo Johnson, a fresh graduate, said: “We were just fascinated by the novelty factor. A limo is associated with class and we often see stars come for the Oscars ceremony in them.

“Convocation day is the most memorable day of our lives and so we thought we should add a little style to it.”

They were in for a treat as the one-hour trip was nothing like they had imagined. “Soft drinks were available and it was really spacious. It was just like in the movies but more of a luxury for us. Besides, it was the first time for all of us,” added Aljo.

“We never dreamt we would travel in a limo on the most important day in our lives. All people were looking at us as we were a bunch of excited youngsters.

“If we had graduated in India, we could never have afforded something like this. However, these are memories we would cherish,” said Nikhil Kumar, one of the 12 students.

The one-way joyride cost only about Dh50 per head, which they say was affordable. The idea was also to give themselves something memorable when they think of the days they spent together.

The short fancy ride was also their last ride together, before they parted ways to pursue their careers in India and other countries.

“We have been a little nostalgic thinking of the one year we spent together. We are all set to go our own separate ways and enter the corporate world.

“Before that, we thought we should try some fun,” said Anuj Jain.
