A four-year-old Emirati boy was badly burned after playing with the leftover fuel and burnt charcoal his family had just used for a barbecue.
With 60 per cent of his body burned, he is currently fighting for his life in a hospital's intensive care unit.
A relative of the boy said the family decided to have a barbecue in their farm in Al Dhaid. After grilling some dishes, they left the burning charcoal near the stove.
While the rest of the kids were playing at the family villa, the boy managed to sneak his way out of the children's area and got near the stove. He found a can of leftover fuel and poured it on the charcoal - which immediately set him on fire.
The boy was rushed to Al Dhaid hospital and was admitted in the ICU. A source at the hospital said the child needed an artificial respiratory system for a while.
His family also requested his transfer to a private hospital in another emirate, the source added.
