220 road accidents in Dubai last month

DUBAI — More than 220 road accidents and 33 red signal violations were reported during last month in areas and intersections falling under the supervision of Al Rashidiya Police Station.

Captain Humoud Saeed Al Amiri, Head of the Station’s Traffic Movement, warned of the risk of avoiding sufficient safety distance, which resulted in 74 accidents.

Besides, he said, the lane violation resulted in 33 accidents, followed by driving reverse without ensuring the clearance of the road which caused 32 accidents; and reckless driving which resulted in 31 accidents. As many as 11 accidents were caused due to the goods that fell off the vehicles and four on account of disrespecting the right of other road users, he added.

Ten accidents were reported against unidentified motorists, he said.

According to Captain Humoud Saeed Al Amiri, 1,176 traffic violations were also reported but fortunately they did not result in any accidents. As many as 300 tickets were issued for lane violations, 203 for hindering the traffic movement, 152 for parking on walkways and 151 for parking in prohibited areas, he noted.
