Two Asian workers died and 31 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in flipped over on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The mishap took place as a result of poor overtaking, Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al Humaid, director general of the central operations room, RAK Police, said.
The central operations room of the RAK Police, alerted about the traffic accident at 12 noon, immediately dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics, and rescue teams to the reported site.
"Two Asian workers could not make it and died on the spot due to the severe impact of the accident, while 31 others of different ages and Asian nationalities sustained different injuries and fractures all over their bodies."
Six of the hurt workers sustained moderate to serious injuries, while 23 others only suffered minor wounds, he added.
"All the injured workers have been rushed to the nearest hospitals for treatment and medical care, while the killed duo was shifted to the morgue."
Earlier in the day, the RAK Police issued a warning to all drivers heading to or from Ras Al Khaimah to other emirates via Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed road, Exit 122, to take extra caution because of the accident.
"The road accident has significantly hampered traffic flow," they said. "Drivers need to reduce speed, be careful, and take alternative roads to avoid traffic snarls."
Official records showed that most of the road accidents reported across the country were blamed on speeding, inattentive driving, swerving and ignoring safety distance.
"The accident file has been referred to the bodies concerned for legal action as due."
