More than 8,000 workers took part in 'Together in the Emirates of Zayed' event held by the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development to mark the International Workers Day.
The Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, noted that great progress in the UAE labour laws has been achieved through its wise leadership and strategy. He said the progress is a result of an environment of peace, understanding, prosperity and happiness the UAE has created for all residents. This has led to economic growth and renaissance at all levels, social and political stability, and increased opportunities.
Sheikh Nahyan thanked the leaders of the country for their efforts to protect workers' rights and provide them with the right work environment to work. This in turn has promoted values of culture, knowledge, coexistence and tolerance. "This was a journey started by our founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan," he said.
The ceremony at Yas Island was held as part of the ministry's events for the 'Year of Giving'. There were many Indian dance shows performed, cultural competitions held and songs sung in different languages. Ambassadors from India, Pakistan and other countries, diplomats, businessmen joined more than 8,000 workers from different nationalities during the celebrations. Sheikh Nahyan said such events help highlight the important role played by labourers and their impact on the country's economic and social development journey.
The ministry aims to support workers by initiating communication and cooperation with all private and public sectors in the country. "We firmly believe in the values of work as the basis for achieving comprehensive development and progress of our country despite the cultural diversity and more than 200 nationalities living here."
