Al Ahli coach Cosmin Olaroiu might answer his country's call and return to his homeland to manage Romania.
The 47-year-old tactician, who has had a successful run in the Middle East with Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal and the UAE's Al Ain and Al Ahli is being talked up as a potential replacement to Anghel Iordanescu, in the Romanian media.
Romania endured a forgettable Euro 2016 in France with them finishing as the wooden spoonists in Group A following two defeats and a draw. The Romanian Football Federation has hinted that a change was in the pipeline.
Although the reports said there has been no contact between Olaroiu and the Federation, it is learnt that Olaroiu would prefer a four-year term so as to build a strong squad for Euro 2020.
Former Al Jazira and Al Wahda coach Laszlo Bölöni, Laurentiu Reghecampf, Mircea Rednic are the others said to be in the running.
Iordanescu, who had two spells with Al Ain, has been in charge since October 2014 and his contract is set to end in July.
Olaroiu's appointment could spell the end of his successful stint in the UAE.
